Above Expectaions and Surprisingly Adventurous
Guanaja - Day 1
Saturday, September 6 - “Surprisingly adventurous, beautiful, and above expectations” were some of the
words used to describe our travel day to Honduras. From cities across the United States, 9 medical
professionals and 2 volunteers came together in Miami, Florida, for one purpose…serve and care for the
people of Guanaja, Honduras, with Partners 4 Global Health. Even though most of the team met for the
first time in person today, there was an immediate sense of enthusiasm and anticipation for the week
ahead. The day was planned and prepared for flawlessly making each connection smooth and relatively
effortless. Thank you, Brita & Chris! The ferry ride from Roatan to Guanaja was a highlight with its open
sea breezes, beautiful island views, and breathtaking painted sky sunset, but perhaps the most memorable
part of the day was the wildly energetic boat ride from the port to the hotel under a moonlit sky! No one
will forget that leg of the trip anytime soon! As we pulled up to the hotel dock, we were greeted by the
hotel staff and adorable resident puppies like family coming home. Our first day ended with refreshing
drinks and a delicious dinner near the beach with sea breezes blowing through the dining room and the
charming sound of wind chimes. We’re incredibly grateful to be here in this place, at this time and with
these people! Tomorrow will serve to set the week up for success by organizing supplies, meds, and
generally preparing for the clinics that will be held in two locations this week and we can’t wait to get
started!
