Mission Beginnings - Travel Day

Day1- Saturday 9/21
The first day of our medical mission trip started around 3:30AM. Our team gathered in the Orlando and Charleston airports to meet up in Atlanta for the final leg of the journey to Honduras. This was a day of travel and getting to know a new team. After we had walked across the sunny and windy tarmac from the plane and waited in line in the hot and humid arrivals hall, we were excited to efficiently make it through the Honduran customs with all of our bags, forty of them, carrying medical supplies, crutches, walkers, and lots of reading glasses.
Following a quick stop at a grocery store for the mandatory supply of snacks and drinks, we had a few hours to see the tourist side of the island, including some time to wander and meet folks. We had several interactions where people noticed our shirts and inquired about what we were here to provide, or they recognized us from our prior trips here! This gave us a great opportunity to share about our mission here in Roatán. They were very happy to hear about our free clinic and started spreading the news. We even had a local nurse and her friend offer to come help translate.
Back at the hotel, we sorted through boxes and boxes of medications. Team bonding and planning for day 1 of clinic! What a wonderful experience so far.
