Clinic Day 2 - a lesson in Honduran culture

Day 2 of clinic started quite early today. The team bus was boarded by 6:45 am with wheels down headed back to the school for a FULL day! We were greeted by school administrators, locals and all of the school kids dressed in their uniforms DESPITE having today and tomorrow off school! They presented us with such a lovely program filled with prayer, their national anthem, local dances and kind words of appreciation for us.

The team endured a blazing hot day, without a moment of cloud cover relief. Thankfully the rain held off and allowed us to treat well over 200 patients for a second day in a row. We met with many families, young and old - contemplating and calculating complaints ranging from aches and chronic pain to digestive issues, orthopedic joint discomfort to MUCH attention again in pediatrics and gynecology. The flawlessness of the team collaboration on Day 2 was a site to behold. We appeared to be a well oiled machine, when the reality is we are a team filled with “first-timers”!

We closed out the day watching many happy faces leave our clinic, arms filled with vitamins, bags containing antibiotics to ease the stress of pain, new eyeglasses, sunglasses and market items galore. While we had to turn away nearly 125 people due to time constraints, we assured each of them if they return tomorrow we will have a slot waiting! The Hondurans of Roatan are so grateful we have come to serve them, they happily said their farewells at days end saying they would see us to “manana”.
