Pre-Trip Post

Hello P4GH Family,

We have begun the countdown to Roatan, Honduras. On Friday of this coming week, we are sending a team of 13 members to Roatan for a medical mission trip and could not be more excited for this opportunity. Our goal for this trip is provide health education and basic medical care to the remote areas of Roatan and Guanaja. Additionally, we are hoping to develop our relationships with local governments and medical systems in an ongoing effort to help their medical infrastructure.

This plucky crew of 13 has gathered meeting over the past months to prepare in mind, body, and spirit for the trip the Lord has placed ahead of us. The team has spent time investing into each other through sharing experiences and excitement about the trip, allowing for the team building process to occur before we even are wheels down in Roatan. Our team encompasses medical professionals overseeing a variety of fields to provide holistic care during our time spent in country.

During our trip, we will be hosting free medical clinics on the Bay Islands of Honduras, specifically Roatan and Guanaja. Roatan, the largest of these islands, has a rich heritage pre-dating the Columbian era where it was home for the Paya. Currently, Roatan is a diverse population of Garífuna, who are of African descent, and the Creoles and Mestizos, having African, European, and indigenous roots. The other island, Guanaja, is known as the most remote and exotic of the islands. Known as the “Venice” of the Bay Islands, Guanaja has many waterways and canals through the island. Due to its remote location, the population lives in dense settlements on the island and any transportation to the island is accomplished via boats.

Our team will hold four clinics, two for each island we visit, and have come prepared with medical equipment, medications, and other aid such as glasses, shoes, walkers, etc.  The Lord has blessed us with this opportunity to travel and serve to create long-lasting connections in Honduras, and we could not be more ready! Please pray for the team and continue to read the blog as we post updates and stories about our time.
