Wheels Down, Safe and Sound
Wheels Down, Safe and Sound

We have made it to Roatan! After a convergence in Miami, the team made the flight into Juan Manuel Gaivez Airport and touched down on the narrow island that we will serve during our time. Once cleared of the maze of customs and a scenic drive through the south side of the island, we arrived at our first home of the trip, the Roatan Yacht Club. After unloading the wall of luggage within the van, the team was able to settle into their rooms. After the long travel day, we ate lunch at the Yacht Club for our first meal as a team.
Step one of the trip was to begin to organize the supplies that gathered from donations of the team members, families, and friends. In a whirlwind of organized chaos, bags began to be stripped, counted, and reformed into the supplies that would be taken to Guanaja or stay in Roatan for the second half of the trip. Every member of the team looked to where they could be of service, and everyone quickly found their niche during the packing process. For the first time together, the team worked cohesively and with excitement. We have been looking forward to this trip for month, and the opportunity to get started excited everyone to jump in and help.
With the bags divided and settled, next on the docket was to have team dinner at the Yacht Club. Although difficult to hear one another over the country-island fusion music, dinner was filled with great conversations and fellowship. Towards the end of dinner, Father David transitioned us into a devotional surrounding the woman at the well seen in John 4. He touched on the concept of being thirsty and that we have been called to serve as pioneers and trailblazers for this Roatan trip. After a time of discussion and prayer, our time together was closed with some heartfelt words and encouragement from Ali and Chris. They reminded the team of why and who we are here to serve as we tend to God's people both physically and spiritually. They specifically spoke to the composition of the team and that we are all led here to serve in our own ways yet as a team.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
